Well, we finally did it. It probably should have been done years ago, but we finally made the move. We installed 10 nice new 7′ x 19″ racks in the server room and last Thursday night we moved the remaining critical systems into those new racks.
We started shutting everything down at about 5:00pm and had solen back up by 8:00pm. Shortly thereafter email starting flowing again and webmail was up and running. Unfortunatly the Gustavus website was down until about 11:30pm. That was because a week earlier its sql server died and we have been running on its backup, but the backup was not configured to start the database automatically. Once that was discovered, it too was back up and running.
All in all, things went quite well. Thanks to all those that were there to help, Ethan, Dave, Braden, and Joel. If you want to view all the hard work and see lots of blinky lights, stop by the hall way next to the server room. The windows are now open.
