Internet Slowness (fixed) Posted on November 15th, 2006 by

You may have noticed that some websites and things such as AOL IM have been slow or not functioning well today. We believe that the cause of the problem was a backhoe incident near Valley Fair ( Just south of the Twin Cities). Well, maybe not excatly a backhoe, but a fiber optic cable was cut hampering our connectivity to some parts of the internet.

Our ISP (Hickorytech) mentioned that the fiber might be repaired by 5:00pm or 6:00pm tonight. As of right now we are still seeing lots of lost packets indicating that our internet connection is NOT ok and you will notice some webpages being really slow or not working at all. Also some things that seem local like the library’s database search, are not working well too since the databases are hosted elsewhere.

As of about 4:40pm our internet connection was restored to its former state. Websites should be back to normal now.
