Better Netflix Streaming Posted on April 7th, 2010 by

Now that Gustavus is IPv6 enabled, students who have subscribed to Netflix streaming services can now do so over our very fast IPv6 network. However to take advantage of this, your computer must have a working IPv6 network connection. See our previous post about IPv6 for more information.

To give IPv6 Netflix streaming a try, go to http://ipv6.netflix.com instead of the usual http://netflix.com. If that works for you, your IPv6 network is configured correctly and all of your Netflix streaming traffic will go over IPv6.

Another advantage of using IPv6 to get your Netflix streaming video is that IPv6 traffic does not count against your bandwidth quota. So feel free to stream away without any fear that it will degrade your internet speeds later.

Does xbox 360 support IPV6 streaming?

It looks like the xbox 360s on our network are not getting IPV6 addresses, so they can not stream over IPv6.

It is certainly something Microsoft might add. As more consumer ISPs support IPv6, IPv6 would be very useful for peer to peer gaming (since the xbox 360 could have a real external IP address.)
